Courts Plus Member Climbs to New Heights

While many Courts Plus members have taken on the indoor climbing wall, Mount Endeavor and succeeded, it’s not everyone who can say they’ve conquered actual mountains.

Meet Chris Urgo, longtime Courts Plus member. Chris, along with his wife Kathy and two daughters recall joining Courts Plus just as the transition took place from the previously named “The Courts.”

Since being a Courts Plus member, Chris has run multiple marathons, triathlons completed two Iron Man competitions and most recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.

Success Story: Jimmy Kissinger

Congratulations to Jimmy Kissinger, Courts Plus member, on his new role as an officer for the Capitol Police in Washington!  Jimmy first applied for this role earlier in 2015, but did not pass a portion of the physical test.  He came out of that knowing he would need help in building strength so he began working with personal trainer John at Courts Plus.  He started training with John in September in preparation for taking the physical exam again at the end of October.

Success Story: Lenore Welsh

Lenore Welsh has been coming to “The Courts” since 1978.  Her membership started because of her love for tennis and racquetball.  In her years watching Courts Plus grow and evolve, she has remained a loyal member who loves her fitness center.  In the 1990s Lenore had a torn meniscus and never got back to playing tennis.  Instead, she found her love for fitness on the fitness floor and also walking.

Success Story: Sheila Scott

Meet Sheila Scott, Courts Plus Member for five years, retired Trinity High School teacher of 43 years, former dance teacher throughout high school and college and exercise enthusiast!  Sheila has an infectious, positive energy and loves to stay active.  As an avid walker, she originally joined Courts Plus so she could walk indoors during the winter weather months.  As a new member, Sheila began taking Tai Chi classes.  With a strong background in dance, Sheila was also attracted to the Zumba Gold class.

Service with a Smile at the Courts Plus Service Desk

They're the friendly face you see when entering Courts Plus and, often, the people wishing you a good day as you leave. The staff at the Courts Plus Service Desk acts as a pivot point around which activity at Courts Plus moves. Speaking with Brian Allen, Service Desk Supervisor, about the duties of the staff he says that the "list is extensive" and later mentions many of their day-to-day tasks, such as the more obvious, like checking people in and making reservations, to the more obscure, like refunding vending machines and minding the television near JBarrons.

Dorothy Sinson, Local Triathlete, Takes Gold!

Dorothy Sinson, Courts Plus member and triathlete, who was featured earlier this summer in our newsletter won the gold medal at the International Triathlon in Chicago this September!  Dorothy took gold in the Women’s 80-84 sprint distance race.  Dorothy would like to give special thanks to Bryan Burmeister at Elmhurst’s very own Stemple’s Cycle Center.  Dorothy has been ably guided by Bryan to increasingly faster equipment which she says has helped her greatly in her races.  Dorothy also works with personal trainer Ka

Member Success at Courts Plus

Suzanne Waite first joined the Member Success Program after she visited her doctor in December and was told she was pre-diabetic.  She had seen the Member Success posters on the wall at Courts Plus and figured it would help her to follow through on her goals of becoming healthier.  Suzanne knew she had to make an immediate and permanent change in her life.  She decided to cut sugar out of her diet.  She began by eliminating sugary drinks, such as soda.
